French Language Program at IEC

The International Education Centre (IEC) offers a focused and immersive three-month French language program designed to help students build practical communication skills. Tailored for all proficiency levels, the program provides structured lessons that emphasize speaking, listening, reading, and writing in French, as well as cultural insights into the French-speaking world.

Beginner Level (Three-Month Course)

For whom: Students with little to no prior knowledge of French.

Program Focus:

  • Building foundational vocabulary and phrases for everyday conversations.
  • Learning basic grammar: present tense verbs, gender and number agreement, and simple sentence structures.
  • Practical topics: greetings, family, numbers, shopping, ordering food, and time.
  • Listening and speaking practice to develop confidence in simple dialogues.
  • Introduction to French and Latin American cultures.

Outcome:   By the end of the course, students will be able to hold basic conversations, understand simple texts, and use foundational grammar to communicate effectively.

2. Intermediate Level (Three-Month Course)

For whom:  Students with basic French knowledge who want to expand their vocabulary and improve fluency.

Program Focus:

  • Enhancing vocabulary for common topics such as travel, professions, and hobbies.
  • Learning past and future tenses, irregular verbs, and sentence structure for more detailed communication.
  • Engaging in group activities like role-playing and discussions to improve speaking and listening skills.
  • Reading short stories, articles, and dialogues to boost comprehension.
  • Writing simple paragraphs, emails, and short narratives.
  • Gaining deeper cultural insights into Hispanic traditions and holidays.

Outcome:   Students will be able to confidently converse in French, describe experiences, and express opinions in various everyday contexts.

Advanced Level (Three-Month Course)

For whom:  Students aiming to achieve fluency and refine their French for professional or academic purposes.

Program Focus:

  • Advanced grammar: subjunctive mood, complex sentence structures, and idiomatic expressions.
  • Expanding vocabulary for professional, academic, and social contexts.
  • Listening to and discussing news articles, podcasts, and short films in French.
  • Practicing speaking through debates, presentations, and storytelling.
  • Reading and analyzing longer texts, such as newspaper articles or short stories.
  • Writing formal letters, essays, and professional reports.

Outcome:  By the end of the course, students will achieve advanced proficiency, enabling them to use French effectively in professional, academic, and social settings.
